    哲学家老子曾经说过,“以其终不自为大,故能成其大。”我现在明白,只有我放弃以前对自己的定位,我才能开启一个全新的人生。我现在明白,我真正的力量从来就不是来自我的身躯,而且尽管我的身体性能发生了极大变化,我真实的自己从未改变。我内心的领航信号灯依然亮着,我们每个人心中都有这样的信号灯。 

    The philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “When you let go of what you are, you become what you might be.” I now know that it wasn’t until I let go of who I thought I was that I was able to create a completely new life. I now know that my real strength never came from my body. And although my physical capabilities have changed dramatically, who I am is unchanged. The pilot light inside of me was still alight, just as it is in each and every one of us.

    When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will always long to return.

    尽管一个在车库里工作的14岁女孩并不是专家,但我仍然可以有所作为,为这个领域做出贡献。这就是激励我继续前进的动力,我希望这能激励其他人也这样做,即使他们并不完全自信。 

    Even though I’m a 14-year-old working in her garage on something that she doesn’t completely understand, I could still make a difference and contribute to the field. And that’s what inspired me to keep going, and I hope it inspires many others to also do work like this even though they’re not very sure about it.

    我成为科学家并不让人意外。我在离这里很远的地方长大,我小时候非常有好奇心,对所有的生物都好奇。我以前会捡起有致命剧毒会螫人的水母,然后对它们唱歌。所以,开始我的职业生涯时,我非常好奇,想解开最根本的谜题,想知道构成生命的基础积木是什么,很幸运,我所在的社会很重视好奇心。

    Now, it was no surprise I became a scientist. Growing up far away from here, as a little girl I was deadly curious about everything alive. I used to pick up lethally poisonous stinging jellyfish and sing to them. And so starting my career, I was deadly curious about fundamental mysteries of the most basic building blocks of life, and I was fortunate to live in a society where that curiosity was valued.

    What if you could make your sleep more efficient? As a sleep scientist, this is the question that has captivated me for the past 10 years. Because while the lightbulb and technology have brought about a world of 24-hour work and productivity, it has come at the cost of our naturally occurring circadian rhythm and our body’s need for sleep.

    饮食是不起作用的。历史上,没有一种饮食结构是适用于全球2%的人群。而健身项目通常始于年初,到了10月左右就结束了。所以,要想长寿,没有任何快起效的药物。但是,可能最重要的就是朋友和周围环境的影响。

    Diets don’t work. No diet in the history of the world has ever worked for more than two percent of the population. Exercise programs usually start in January; they’re usually done by October. When it comes to longevity there is no short term fix in a pill or anything else. But when you think about it, your friends are long-term adventures, and therefore, perhaps the most significant thing you can do to add more years to your life, and life to your years.
